Fishing Vessel Deckhand Course
(DG Fisheries)

This course is professional in nature and on passing the exam, the Student obtains the professional card accrediting the training of the crew so that they can undertake their professional activity on commercial fishing vessels. In the Canary Islands, the Professional Card is issued by the Directorate General of Fisheries, through whom the formality of the paperwork must be processed.

Valid for anyone in possession of the Maritime Navigation Licence wishing to exercise their profession in the fishing sector in general.

Objective

To train the Student in order to pass the theory exam and the practical test required in the Canary Islands by the DG of Fisheries, which will enable them to obtain the Professional Fishing Vessel Deckhand Card.

Content/Modules

Module 1 – Basic Knowledge: elements of the vessel and its equipment.

Module 2 – Vessel governance, guard duty and safety watch

Module 3 – Loading and unloading operations

Module 4 – Vessel manoeuvres in the port, handling and maintenance

Module 5 – Health and safety in fishing work

Module 6 – Handling/Conservation of fisheries and aquaculture products

Module 7 – Protection of the marine environment and its resources

Qualification

A Professional Diploma issued by Grupo Stier, LRQA ISO 9001:2015, valid in order to apply for the DG of Fisheries Professional Licence
