Stier Group has successfully delivered a new Oil & Gas course in Africa

The Stier Group, within the ‘International Training of Trainers and Training Program for Africa’, trained young Mauritanians in the “Oil & Gas” sector and gave the course: “Introduction to Security Measures in the O&G market” in the classroom of its Stier Training Center in Mauritania, which is located at Av. Gamal Abdel Nasser – Cité Plage, Lot 437 Ilot K Extension Phase 5, Nouakchott

This International Program in which the Stier Group participates is financed by the General Directorate of Relations with Africa of the Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands, with the aim of consolidating, promoting and boosting the Canary Islands as a node of international knowledge in which Canary Islands experts and trainers from developing countries, preferably African, converge.

This action has been managed by the Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias, S.A., which during the year 2024 provides training in different areas and topics, so that beneficiaries and trainers from African countries can receive the necessary training and transfer this knowledge, replicating it in their territories.

Stier Group, with its Stier Training Centre and with the course “Safety, Security & Lifejackets use in the O&G industry” has been promoting and enhancing the delivery of professional skills whose International Certifications are the ones that give access to the labor market in the Oil & Gas sector. The Group also trains, at an international level, with courses in the maritime and wind energy sectors. For this reason, from Gran Canaria, the Group has opened a portal for the exchange of knowledge and specialties to train trainers in Mauritania and Senegal.

The students in these courses are mainly men and women between 25 and 45 years of age, with an average academic education, with an intermediate or higher education degree and resident in Mauritania and Senegal. They know English and many of them have had some experience in the training, port or diving sector. It was not necessary for them to have previous knowledge of the course given by the Stier Group.

From November 25 to 29, the participating students learned the basic knowledge necessary to get started in the oil industry, recognizing the most important risks and practicing the use of life jackets, which are essential for any transfer or maneuver in offshore installations.

All of them showed great predisposition and enthusiasm. They really enjoyed the opportunity to learn and evolve in a sector that offers great job opportunities.

The training program is highly practical and covers the most relevant issues regarding: safety (what to do in case of accidents), use of the vests (dry practices) and cleaning as well as maintenance of the equipment on board or on shore, which implies occupational health and safety standards.

At the end of the theory, the trainees were able to recognize the occupational hazards and safety measures to be applied in air and sea transfers to ensure that these transfers are always carried out safely. At the end of the training they had to demonstrate their skills and knowledge in the use and handling of the EBS and CA EBS vest. And finally, at the end of the course, all of them proved to be able to recognize the dangers of the oil market and to be able to respond to emergencies through the proper use of EBS and CA EBS vests.

All students, who successfully completed the course, received a Certificate certifying training in this important international economic and business area. This is an ITC / Stier Group certification under the LQRA ISO 9011:2015 norm and standards.

This course has been possible to be carried out by the Stier Group thanks to the involvement and work of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the management of the Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias, S.A. Training international trainers in the Canary Islands is an urgent need to respond to market demand and especially of the Training Centers that must send their staff to train in the country of origin.
