Grupo Stier will be present at Fimar 2025

The International Sea Fair (Feria Internacional del Mar) is the annual meeting point for the marine-maritime and nautical sectors in the Canary Islands. It is also an essential forum for learning about the ocean-related research activities carried out in the islands. The 14th edition of Fimar, taking place from June 6 to 8 at the Sanapú dock in the Port of Las Palmas, will feature a comprehensive outreach program highlighting the current state of the marine environment and new advances with the potential to transform the region’s blue economy. In addition to popular waterfront walks, water exhibitions, and family-friendly activities, there will be a children’s area and a gastronomy zone.

Fimar 2025 is an event promoted by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and the Port Authority of Las Palmas. It is organized by the Department of Ciudad de Mar of the Gran Canaria capital and Infecar Feria de Gran Canaria.

This edition of the fair will kick off under the theme of sustainability of the Canary Islands’ coastal edges. In line with this, an agenda of public lectures and sessions, open and free to the public, will address various current topics related to the oceans, with a particular focus on the Canary Islands.

Topics covered will include the drifting colonies of the Portuguese man o’ war, the connection between physics and biology in ocean dynamics, the journey of microplastics through oceanic eddies in Canary waters, the role of organic ligands in the marine ecosystem around the island of El Hierro, and an unexpected link between island-grown dates and sea bass.

Several sessions with an important educational spirit will also stand out. For instance, there will be guidelines for educators and citizens on climate change and measures to protect consumers from the impact of ciguatoxin, which can accumulate in fish and shellfish.

In addition, attendees will learn about the real impact of tourism on marine litter statistics in the archipelago—another issue of great significance in the current context.

Public presentations at Fimar will also highlight significant advancements in ongoing technological evolution, such as the exploration of ocean dynamics using autonomous robots, predicting marine environment changes with artificial intelligence, and the large-scale production of sustainable fuels from microalgae.

This year, Stier Training Centre will once again be present at Fimar with the Grupo Stier stand, where visitors can learn firsthand about the various opportunities available in the maritime, oil and gas, and renewable energy sectors, all thanks to appropriate training.
