The Council of Ministers, at the proposal of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, has approved a Royal Decree regulating the direct granting of subsidies to promote professions related to the maritime sector. This regulation aims to encourage careers in this sector, which is of great importance to both the economy and the transport of goods, and which requires a large number of professionals.
To this end, the aim is to raise awareness of these professions to attract early interest, promote undergraduate and master’s degrees among students, and facilitate access to training for those who choose them. Spanish regulations require onboard training for specific periods, in conjunction with university studies, to obtain professional qualifications.
To facilitate this student enrollment, a grant of €1 million is allocated to the Spanish Shipowners’ Association (Anave), which will distribute these funds among the participating shipping companies. To promote awareness of the various professions, two further grants of €50,000 each are awarded to organizations that promote the cultural dimension of the maritime world, namely:
The Correíllo La Palma Foundation, which is responsible for the restoration and rehabilitation in seaworthy condition of the historic ship of the same name, a truly unique cultural and tourist resource in Spain.
