Grupo Stier & the Food Bank of Las Palmas sign an agreement to use the food surplus

Yesterday, Grupo Stier represented by the CEO of the company, Mrs. Ida Stier, and the Food Bank of Las Palmas, represented by the president of the entity, Mr. Pedro Linares Llorca, signed an agreement in order to distribute to the Food Bank and profit the goods surplus that are damaged originated from the ships calling at the port of Las Palmas.

Yesterday, Grupo Stier represented by the CEO of the company, Mrs. Ida Stier, and the Food Bank of Las Palmas, represented by the president of the entity, Mr. Pedro Linares Llorca, signed an agreement in order to distribute to the Food Bank and profit the goods surplus that are damaged originated from the ships calling at the port of Las Palmas. The signing ceremony was held at the offices of the Food Bank in Mercalaspalmas, and also counted with the presence of Fernando Vicent, head of training at Grupo Stier and Victor Alonso and Javier Marco, Food Bank responsible for relations with companies’ area.

Grupo Stier through its shipping agency activity, correspondents of various maritime insurance companies and of P & I clubs usually meet or appraise cases where the goods, by a formal defect, cannot be sold through the usual distribution channels, often being removed and destroyed. With this agreement the goods may be removed and will be immediately distributed to needed people trough the Food Bank that does a crucial daily social work among people that are facing lack of resources.

 

For Grupo Stier this agreement signed yesterday strengthens the social commitment that already exists with other NGOs . Grupo Stier as leader in the offshore maritime training is devoted to continue raising consciousness about the incessant and necessary work of the NGOs to the students who attend year after year in their academic facilities of Grupo Stier.
